Subject: As my MP, please attend the debate and support a ban on fossil fuel advertising
On Monday 7 July at 16.30, Parliament will debate fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship for the first time in UK history. This is a critical moment for public health, climate action, and advertising standards.
Fossil fuel pollution causes more than 30,000 deaths every year in the UK. Advertising that promotes coal, oil, and gas directly undermines efforts to reduce emissions, clean up our air, and protect public health β just as tobacco ads once did.
As my Member of Parliament, Iβm asking you to:
π Attend the Westminster Hall debate at 4:30pm on Monday 7 July, and
π Support efforts to end fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship.
The science is clear. The economics are sound and backed by the UKβs leading advertising agencies, marketing agencies and publishers with an annual turnover of nearly Β£1 billion, who want higher standards in their industry.
Public support is strong: over 110,000 people have signed the Parliamentary petition, and polling shows that two-thirds of the public support further regulation.
Weβve done it before. Labour rightly banned tobacco advertising in 2002 and restrictions on junk food advertising are soon to follow. Letβs close the loophole in the Advertising Standards Agency guidelines and consign fossil fuel advertising to history.
Sincerely,

Public support is strong: over 110,000 people have signed the Parliamentary petition launched by Chris Packham, and polling shows that two-thirds of the public support further regulation.
Weβve done it before. Labour rightly banned tobacco advertising in 2002 and restrictions on junk food advertising are soon to follow. Letβs close the loophole in the Advertising Standards Agency guidelines and consign fossil fuel advertising to history.
